Industrial Technology CASE STUDY
Mapping the Smart Building Ecosystem
A leading industrial manufacturer, strong in traditional hardware, was seeking to understand the evolving smart-connected buildings landscape and size near- and long-term opportunities, producing board-ready guidance on investment potential and priorities.
WHAT WE DID
We started with a detailed scan of published research covering over 60 sources of secondary market research to inform market breakdown and structure, market sizes and projected growth rates, competitive landscape, trends and market drivers.
With this baseline, we engage a wide range of experts and stakeholders (hardware/technology providers, customers, channel, architects and designers, etc.) across the Smart-Connected Building ecosystem and conducted in-depth interviews to better understand their current needs and pain points, expectations of smart technologies, strategic priorities. We developed personas for the commercial real estate customer of the future to develop a more nuanced understanding of segment specific needs.
We generated a point of view of key ecosystem plays that the client could consider, estimated the value at stake and developed an investment thesis for the board to consider.
WHAT HAPPENED
Developed a board level point of view that resulted in key decisions on targeted investments related to software acquisitions. Clarified client understanding of strategic market blind spots and prioritized the activation of capability and product development initiatives.
